Chimborazo stands as Ecuador’s highest mountain, with its equatorial summit reaching 6,310 meters (20,565 ft) – the closest point to the sun on Earth. Our experienced high-altitude mountain guides are certified by both the Ministry of Environment and Tourism to operate within Chimborazo National Park and ASEGUIM, Ecuador’s national mountain climbing association.

Climb Cotopaxi and Chimborazo

These are the most popular climbs in the Andes of Ecuador, with Cotopaxi standing at 5,879 meters (19,000 ft) and Chimborazo at 6,310 meters (20,565 ft). Tackling these summits requires great stamina and physical endurance. As these are among the most sought-after climbs, solo travelers often seek partners to conquer the mountain summits.

To achieve the feat of conquering both summits, you’ll need 6 days, as described in the itinerary below:

Day 1

Riobamba or Quito – Tambo paxi

Your adventure begins with a pick-up in Quito and a scenic drive to Tambo Paxi Lodge, nestled at an elevation of 3800 meters (12,467 feet). Here, amidst the breathtaking landscapes of Cotopaxi National Park, you’ll have the day to acclimatize to the high altitude.

Day 2

Jose Rivas Refuge- Cotopaxi

After a restful night, we’ll transfer you to José Rivas Refuge, situated at approximately 4800 meters (15,748 feet) above sea level. This cozy refuge serves as our base camp for the climb ahead. Dinner will be served at 5 pm, providing the nourishment needed for the journey.

Day 3

Cotopaxi Summit

In the pre-dawn hours, we embark on the exhilarating climb of Cotopaxi, one of Ecuador’s most iconic volcanoes, towering at approximately 5897 meters (19,347 feet) above sea level. The ascent is a test of endurance and skill, navigating through rocky terrain and icy slopes. Our aim is to reach the summit between 6-8 am, where breathtaking views of the surrounding Andean peaks await. After conquering the peak, we descend back to José Rivas Refuge for a well-deserved breakfast. From there, we continue our journey to Riobamba, settling into Bella Casona for a night of rest and celebration..

Day 4

Chimborazo Basecamp Lodge

Today is a day of rest and recovery as we transfer to Chimborazo Basecamp Lodge, situated at 3900 meters (12,795 feet) above sea level. Surrounded by the towering peaks of the Andes, the lodge provides a tranquil setting for acclimatization and relaxation.

Day 5

Chimborazo Refuge

As the sun rises over the majestic Chimborazo, we journey to Chimborazo National Park, where our trek to High Camp begins. The trail winds through stunning alpine landscapes, offering glimpses of the rugged beauty of the Andes. High Camp, located at approximately 5300 meters (17,388 feet), serves as our base for the final ascent..

Day 6

Chimborazo Summit

Today marks the culmination of our journey as we embark on the final push to Chimborazo’s summit. The climb is demanding, requiring endurance and determination as we navigate the icy slopes and challenging terrain. Standing atop the summit, we’re rewarded with panoramic views stretching across the Andean landscape. After descending to High Camp, we bid farewell to the majestic mountain and transfer back to Riobamba, where our unforgettable journey comes to an end.
